Sconce · SMS Terms of Service
Last updated: May 14, 2026
Program name: Sconce — Executive Function Coaching
- Sconce sends SMS coaching messages to enrolled students. Messages include reminders about upcoming schoolwork (e.g. quizzes, assignments, projects), short conversational coaching about planning and prioritization, and follow-ups on tasks the student has discussed with the coach. Every message labeled "Coach" is generated by an AI system (Anthropic's Claude), not a human. No marketing, no promotional content, no third-party offers. A parent or legal guardian opts the student in through the onboarding form at https://sconce.dev/intake with explicit consent for SMS messaging to the student's phone number.
- You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text STOP to the number you receive messages from. After you send the SMS message STOP to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again. The keywords STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT also opt you out.
- If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at [email protected]. The keyword INFO works the same as HELP.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. You will receive approximately 1–10 messages per day during the school year, varying based on the student's schedule and coaching activity, with lower or zero volume on weekends, holidays, and school breaks. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
- We will never share or sell your mobile number, your SMS opt-in, or your consent information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The only third party that receives the student's mobile number is Twilio, our messaging carrier, solely to deliver these messages — never for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for details.
- If you have any questions regarding privacy, please read our privacy policy: https://sconce.dev/privacy
Eligibility and minors
SMS coaching messages are sent only to students whose parent or legal guardian has provided explicit consent through the Sconce onboarding form. Students under 13 are subject to additional protections under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as described in the Privacy Policy.
