Sconce ยท Messaging Terms of Service

Last updated: September 3, 2026

Program name: Sconce โ€” Executive Function Coaching

  1. Sconce sends coaching messages by SMS and WhatsApp to enrolled users who choose and authorize one of those channels. Messages include three things: reminders about upcoming schoolwork (e.g. quizzes, assignments, projects), short conversational coaching about planning and prioritization, and follow-ups on tasks discussed with the coach. Every message labeled "Coach" is generated by an AI system, not a human. Sconce may evaluate or change the model used to provide the service. Current provider and data-handling details are maintained in the Privacy Policy. No marketing, no promotional content, no third-party offers. A parent or legal guardian opts a minor student in through the onboarding form at https://sconce.dev/intake. Adult self-users authorize their own number. Web access remains available without phone-messaging consent.
  2. You can cancel phone messaging at any time by replying STOP on that channel. For SMS, after you send the SMS message STOP to us, we will send you an SMS message confirming that you have been unsubscribed; after this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. The same request stops Sconce messages on WhatsApp. If you want to join again, sign up again through the intake process. The keywords STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT also opt you out.
  3. If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at [email protected]. The keyword INFO works the same as HELP.
  4. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  5. As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. You will receive approximately 1โ€“10 messages per day during the school year, varying based on the student's schedule and coaching activity, with lower or zero volume on weekends, holidays, and school breaks. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
  6. We will never share or sell your mobile number, your messaging opt-in, or your consent information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Twilio receives the authorized recipient's mobile number solely to deliver SMS or WhatsApp messages. Meta also processes WhatsApp messages. Neither receives it from Sconce for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for details.
  7. If you have any questions regarding privacy, please read our privacy policy: https://sconce.dev/privacy

Eligibility and minors

SMS and WhatsApp coaching messages are sent only after an authorized adult provides explicit consent through the Sconce onboarding form. For minors, that adult must be a parent or legal guardian. Students under 13 are subject to additional protections under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as described in the Privacy Policy.
